New England Cottage, Massachusetts

The design for this garden was largely informed by the significant level change from the front of the property to the back and the numerous retaining walls needed to create level areas. Although a newly built home, the client wanted it to blend well into its coastal New England neighbourhood. To accomplish this, great attention was paid to hardscape materials with local granite being used for retaining walls and steps. A few perennial beds have been placed in key areas, but flowering trees and evergreen shrubs are the primary source of interest in the garden. The back of the property has been planted with naturalizing bulbs and is being left to return to nature.
